From Alexander Hamilton to George Washington, 21 May 1792

To George Washington

Philadelphia May 21st 1792.

Sir,

I returned here yesterday from New Ark,1 & find that nothing material has occurred in my absence.

There is nothing new except what is contained in the papers, and what I doubt not has been announced to you from the War Department—the Convention between Hamtramck and certain Tribes on the Wabash.2

With the most perfect respect and truest attachment, I have the honor to be &c.

1. H had left Philadelphia on May 13, 1792, to attend a meeting at Newark, New Jersey, of the directors of the Society for Establishing Useful Manufactures.

2. On March 14, 1792, Major John F. Hamtramck of the First United States Infantry Regiment signed “Articles of Agreement with Wabash Indians,” calling for a meeting of the Wabash chiefs and representatives of the United States at Vincennes to conclude a treaty of peace. The articles of agreement are printed in Carter, Territorial Papers description begins Clarence E.
