Your highness James Maddison Prs. U,S,

I am under the nessesity of Praying to your Highnss for my Dicharg,1 as I have an edged Mother that is Lift with ought a Child to Spport Her in her advanst years, I Did not Enter into Servis of the U,S, for ganes, But for the Defence and Support of our Liberty there fore I am willing under the circumstances of my Old Mother to give up all Clames I have to the U,S, for my honorable Decharge, I Prsume your highness Will grant me my Dacharge that I may returne to my honorable Occopation and Du the honor that a Child ought to Shew to an honorable Mother, I am to your highness a humble Servent

RC (DNA: RG 94, Letters Received, filed under “Scott”). Adjutant and inspector general Daniel Parker wrote and signed a note on the cover sheet: “This case was sent to the Adj. I.G’s office by the President by Mr. Graham of the War Office stating that the discharge must be granted as the President wished all those to be who had families to provide for. … Discharge sent to Annapolis.” Docketed, evidently in error, as received in the War Department on 22 June 1815.

1Scotte was discharged in August 1815 (DNA: RG 94, Registers of Enlistments, 1798–1815, 22:142).
