§ From Robert Patton
11 September 1813, Philadelphia. “I duly received your favour of the 8th Augt: enclosing a check, in my favour, for one hundred dollars, for the use of James M Macon,1 & which was paid him agreeably to your request.
“The clerk who paid Mr. Macon misslaid the receipt. I now take the liberty to enclose it.”2

1. James Madison Macon was the son of JM’s sister Sarah Catlett Madison Macon and her husband Thomas Macon ( , 2:362 n. 2, 406).
2. The enclosed receipt (1 p.), dated 11 Aug. 1813 and signed by Macon, stated that he had “Received of James Madison Esquire by the hands of Robert Patton Esquire one hundred dollars.”
