According to his financial records, TJ paid Edward Frethy, his barber, $3.75 on 3 June. Frethy also submitted to TJ for payment an invoice dated 30 June for “one months shaving” for $5 (MS in same; in Frethy’s hand and signed by him; endorsed by TJ). On 6 Nov. TJ paid $5.25 for a month’s shaving and pomatum (MB description begins James A. Bear, Jr., and Lucia C. Stanton, eds., Jefferson’s Memorandum Books: Accounts, with Legal Records and Miscellany, 1767–1826, Princeton, 1997, The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Second Series description ends , 2:1043, 1057).
