Horse Guards Monday 9th. Sept. 1794

Sir

you was so obliging as to say you would do me the honour of taking a quiet Dinner with me at my retreat at Wimbledon. If Thursday next is agreable to you, and your Son and Mr Trumbull, I shall be very happy of your Company that day. I dine soon after four o clock,1 and I have the honour to remain, with great Respect Sir your most obedient and humble Servant

1PAJ records in his diary that on 12 Sept., “We dined with Mr. Dundas at Wimbleton in company with Mr. Pitt, the Lord Chancellor, & Lord Macartney who has lately arrived from China, & who told us many interesting facts relating to that country”. PAJ Diary A, AD, NNC. A scheduling conflict delayed this meeting as JJ and his two secretaries had plans on the appointed day, so Dundas wrote back on the 10th proposing the following Friday, which JJ accepted.
