Dr Sr

An Indented Servant-Man of mine run away, and was taken up coming on Shore from the french Frigate, with the enclosed Letter.

Altho’ I am again in possession of my property, yet I Judged it necessary, that the Officers of Government should be enformed, of the easy Access our Indented servants have to enter on Board their Vessels of War. I am with every Sentiment of Respect & Esteem Dr Sr. Your Obedt Humble Servt.

Andrew Porter (1743–1813), a Pennsylvania schoolmaster, surveyor, and agriculturalist, who served as a Continental marine and artillery officer during the Revolutionary War and as a state militia general from 1800 until his death, was currently a farmer in Norriton Township, Pennsylvania (William A. Porter, “A Sketch of the Life of General Andrew Porter,” PMHB description begins Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography, 1877- description ends , iv [1880], 261–6,297).
