May it please your Excellency

We the Printers of the Delaware Gazette, beg leave to approach your Excellency in our professional line and to request your acceptance of our Paper:1 It is a trifling publication, but it is the only paper the State affords; and should your Excellency receive any information through its channel we shall be amply rewarded for our trouble[.] That your Excellency may long live, to the honor and dignity of the human race is the fervent Prayer of

1. The Delaware Gazette was established at Wilmington in 1785 by Jacob A. Killen. The paper was taken over in 1787 by Frederick Craig, Peter Brynberg, and Samuel Andrews, and in 1791 Brynberg and Andrews alone became the publishers (Brigham, American Newspapers, description begins Clarence S. Brigham. History and Bibliography of American Newspapers, 1690–1820. 2 vols. Worcester, Mass., 1947. description ends 1:80–81).
