Report on the Memorials of Pelatiah Webster and William Judd

[Philadelphia] March 6, 1783

The Committee to whom was committed the report of the Grand Committee on the memorial of Pelatiah Webster & William Judd in behalf of the deranged officers of the lines of Massachusettes & Connecticut1 submit the following resolution:

That the accounts of the officers who have retired on half pay at different periods of the war [or their representatives]2 be settled on the same principles with the accounts of the army as contained in the resolution of the [25] of Jany last.

The Committee advise that the parts of their memorial relating to an advance of money be referred to the Superintendant of Finance to take order.3

1. On January 7, 1783, Pelatiah Webster, pamphleteer and merchant, and William Judd of the Connecticut Militia sent Congress a petition on behalf of the Connecticut line. On January 8, Webster sent a similar petition on behalf of the Massachusetts line. On January 8, both petitions were referred to a grand committee which reported on February 27 (JCC description begins Journals of the Continental Congress, 1774–1789 (Washington, 1904–1937). description ends , XXIV, 43). The report was recommitted on the same day to a committee consisting of Richard Peters, H, and Eliphalet Dyer (JCC description begins Journals of the Continental Congress, 1774–1789 (Washington, 1904–1937). description ends , XXIV, 154).

2. The bracketed material is not in the writing of H.

3. The endorsement states that the report was read on March 5 and negatived on March 6.
