The Honorable the Congress on the 14th instant have been pleased to pass an act, of which the following is an extract. Resolved—That the thanks of Congress be given to Major General Sullivan and the brave officers and soldiers under his command for effectually executing an important expedition against such of the Indian Nations, as encouraged by the councils and conducted by the officers of his britannic Majesty had perfidiously waged an unprovoked & cruel war against these United-States—laid waste many of their defenceless towns and with savage barbarity slaughtered the Inhabitants thereof.

The 6th Maryland Regiment’s orderly book entry for this date prefaces these general orders with the following additional orders: “A sub. and twenty men from the Connecticut Line to be added to the fatigue party, under the direction of Col: Cusciozko near St Anthony’s nose.
“A Man from each Brigade at this post to be sent tomorrow morning 8 o’Clk to the orderly Office, with their Arms, packs & Blankets to be furnish’d with 2 Days provision—They are to be employ’d one Month in the laboratory at Fishkill.
“Four men from each of the right & left Divisions to be employ’d on the same business.
“A serjt Corporal & 12 Men from the Maryland line to parade this afternoon at 4 o’Clk, with their Arms blankets & 2 Days provision to escort some prisoners of war to Fishkill” (DLC: Peter Force Collection).
