From the Field Officers of Brigadier General John Sullivan’s Brigade

Winter Hill, 3 March 1776. Recommend “that Capt. Daniel Rogers [who] has been employed as a Deputy Engineer under Gena. Sullivan, of the works erected on winter & Plow’d Hills since the Sixteenth day of July last,” receive “what wages your Excellency may think Necessary for his past services.”1

This document is signed by: colonels John Stark, John Nixon, Enoch Poor, James Reed, lieutenant colonels John McDuffee, Thomas Poor, Israel Gilman, Thomas Nixon, and majors John Moor and Andrew Colburn. These field officers represented the 2d, 4th, 5th, and 8th Continental regiments. Maj. Nathan Hale of the 2d Regiment and Maj. Joseph Cilley of the 8th Regiment did not sign.

1On 22 April 1776 GW signed a warrant for $130 in payment of Daniel Rogers’s wages to 1 Jan. “for Actg as an Assistt Engineer” (account of warrants signed, 10 Sept. 1775–12 Aug. 1776, DLC:GW).
