TJ’s note of 5 Nov. to the Tennessee senators is not recorded in SJL and has not been found.
The State Department issued a commission for james trimble as bankruptcy commissioner for the District of East Tennessee on 12 Nov. and TJ entered the change on his list of nominations for bankruptcy commissioners (list of commissions in Lb in DNA: RG 59, MPTPC; Vol. 37:711).
Writing from Knoxville, edward scott notified Madison on 22 Aug. that he found “it inconvenient to discharge the duties of Commissioner of Bankruptcy” and was returning his commission (RC in DNA: RG 59, LAR; endorsed by TJ: “resigns as Commr. bkrptcy Tennissee”).
