Newport. August 26. 3 oclock P.M. 1780
I this moment receive your Excellency’s Letter of the 26th. Your Excellency needs not be uneasy about your dispatch of the 21st. I had already [accused] the reception of it, the 25th instant, and by comparing together all your Dispatches, I cannot see which should be wanting. I am with respect Sir, Your Excellency’s most obedient humble servant
le cte de Rochambeau
P.S. You mention mine of the 20th and 21st being arrived safe, so I hope that it cannot be none of mine to your Excellency.
