Camp Orangetown 21st August 1780


Capt. Barns of the 8th Connect. Regiment, having been for some time past unable to attend to the duties of his Office by reason of sickness, and now judging his constitution so far impaired, as to render him incapable of serving in the field this campaign; requests a discharge from the army. As Capt. Barns hath in the course of his service maintained the character of a faithfull attentive Officer, but now appearing to want that health and firmness of constitution necessary to discharge the duties of his office, is recommended for a discharge.
