Highlands April 12th 1780

May it Pleas your Excellency

My Circumstances are Such, as will not permit my Staying longer in the Service, beg leave to Resign my Commission and rank, and doubt not but your Excellency will grant my request. my reasons for leaving the Service, at this advanced Season are, 1stly being Superceded by Mr Banester who was taken from the Staff of the line in another Regiment, and promoted to Captain in this, 2dly The inadequacy of the Pay to Support me as an Officer—I am with Every sentiment of Esteem your Excellencies most obedient huml. Servant
