Samuel Holten to George Washington, [January 1795–February 1795]
From Samuel Holten
[January–February 1795] Tuesday morng
Mr. Holten presents his most respectful compliments to the President, and will do himself the honor of dining with him on Thursday next.
D, DLC: Papers of Samuel Holten. This document is written on the reverse of what looks to be a cover addressed to Holten, “Member of Congress Philadelphia.” Also on the page is a note that John Sitman, Burrill Devereux, and Richard Pedrick “signed the letter respectg the fisheries.” The latter evidently is a reference to their letter to James Madison of 22 Jan. (, 15:449–51), and it seems most probable that Holten wrote this note to GW about the same time.
