War Department Chief Clerk John Stagg, Jr., certified that the account was a “Copy—Original on file in the war office.”

1Jonathan Trumbull, Jr. (1740–1809), served as Continental paymaster general for the northern department from 1775 to 1778. In 1793 he was a congressman from Connecticut, and he later became a senator and governor of that state.

2Paul-Louis Céloron de Blainville (b. 1753) became a lieutenant in the Continental army in 1777 and was promoted to captain in 1778. He was captured at Charleston in 1780 and resigned his commission in 1782.
