2In a letter to Gouverneur Morris of 7 July 1790, GW acknowledged receipt of Morris’s letters of 7 and 13 April and 1 and 2 May “on the business which had been entrusted to you of a public nature.” It is uncertain which of these letters GW transmitted to Jay.

3For Jay’s reply, see his letter to GW, this date.
