Evening Orders
Officers are to be sent tomorrow morning seven o Clock to the Huts1 to select the officers heavy Baggage which the General recommends should be deposited in the Farmer’s houses in the Vicinity of the Huts: As many officers only as are indispensably necessary to be sent on this duty and to return to Camp tomorrow evening or by the next day morning at farthest.

On this date, GW paid Joseph Hunter, a private in the 4th Continental Dragoons, $60 for his expenses as an express rider between Newport, R.I., and Morristown and back to the cavalry’s camps in Connecticut (Revolutionary War Receipts, 1775–1783, DLC:GW, ser. 5).
1. The orders are referring to the huts at the army’s winter encampment at Jockey Hollow, New Jersey.
