On this date GW wrote to an unidentified person from headquarters at West Point: “I was favored with your letter of the 6th Inst. and its inclosure from Governor Trumbul. I have nothing of a particular nature to communicate” (LS [photocopy], DLC:GW. The LS was sold in 1947 at Kende Galleries, Gimbel Bros., N.Y., Edward Ambler Armstrong Collection of Washingtonia, item 163). The letter to GW of 6 Aug. has not been found. The enclosure has not been identified.
