General Orders

Head-Quarters Moores-House [West Point] Monday July 26th 1779.

Parole Valencia—C. Signs Vigo Van.

All the brigade Majors to attend at the Orderly-Office tomorrow 12 ô clock, except the one from General Glover’s brigade.1

Varick transcript, DLC:GW.

A transcript of another orderly book from GW’s headquarters includes an additional general order for this date that reads: “A trusty sergeant and twelve men from Gen. McDougall’s division to parade at two o’clock this afternoon at the orderly office, with their arms, blankets, and two day’s provision, to escort some prisoners to Poughkeepsie” (NN: Bancroft Collection).

1Brig. Gen. John Glover’s brigade was operating in Connecticut, which undoubtedly compelled the absence of its brigade major from this gathering.
