AD, DLC:GW. Part of this return is photographically reproduced in Fitzpatrick, Writings description begins John C. Fitzpatrick, ed. The Writings of George Washington from the Original Manuscript Sources, 1745–1799. 39 vols. Washington, D.C., 1931–44. description ends , facing 10:246.

GW apparently never completed this return, which takes up three manuscript pages, but he may have enclosed a complete copy in his letter of 29 Jan. to a Continental Congress camp committee. GW inadvertently reversed the commanders of the 5th and 7th Maryland Regiments. These were in fact respectively Colonels William Richardson and John Gunby. GW arranged the return in eight columns, which for reasons of space have been given abbreviated headings in this transcription. GW actually headed the columns: “Major Genls”; “Brigadrs”; “No. of the Regimt”; “Names of the Colonels”; “To what State belonging”; “Strength of ea: Regt”; “Strength of each Brigade”; and “Strength of each Division.”
