Prospect Hill [24 September 1775]. Gives permission for Lt. David Richmond to resign his commission if agreeable to GW.1

Daniel Hitchcock (1739–1777), colonel of the 2d Rhode Island Regiment, was in civilian life a successful lawyer in Providence. Hitchcock remained a regimental commander until he died of illness at Morristown on 13 Jan. 1777.

1David Richmond (1748–1818) of Gloucester, R.I., lieutenant of Capt.-Lt. John Field’s company in Hitchcock’s regiment, was discharged on 24 September. In 1776 Richmond became a lieutenant in a company of Rhode Island light infantry.
