Letter not found: to John Morgan [c.6 Oct. 1774]. The following item appears in the Parke-Bernet catalog, item 246, 9 Mar. 1965: “Col. Washington presents his compliments to Doctr. Morgan . . . & will, with pleasure wait upon him at Dinner on Monday.”1
1. GW dined with Dr. John Morgan on Monday, 10 Oct., in Philadelphia (Diaries description begins Donald Jackson and Dorothy Twohig, eds. The Diaries of George Washington. 6 vols. Charlottesville, Va., 1976–79. description ends , 3:285). In 1765 Morgan (1735–1789) founded the first medical school in the American colonies at the College of Philadelphia (later the University of Pennsylvania).
