D, CSmH. This is possibly in GW’s handwriting. In his orders issued on 7 Oct. GW had ordered this return to be made for submitting to the earl of Loudoun. The return is docketed: “Enclosed in Govr Dinwiddies of 28th October.” It was undoubtedly enclosed in Dinwiddie’s public letter of that date to Loudoun (Brock, Dinwiddie Papers description begins R. Alonzo Brock, ed. The Official Records of Robert Dinwiddie, Lieutenant-Governor of the Colony of Virginia, 1751–1758. 2 vols. Richmond, 1883–84. description ends , 2:532–34). Many of the monthly returns of the Virginia Regiment, 1755–58, are in DLC:GW and are frequently cited in these volumes of GW’s Papers.
