1. In the summer of 1756, Ezekiel Richardson, once an English sailor, was a 20–year-old soldier in Charles Lewis’s company of the Virginia Regiment. He was a drummer in Jacob Van Braam’s company at the surrender at Fort Necessity in the summer of 1754, and by 1758 he had become the drum major of the 1st Virginia Regiment.
