Lexington Kentucky 2nd. Octr. 1815

Dear Sir

The death of Judge Griswold of Illinois Territory occasions a vacancy to fill which Mr. Thomas Towles of this State has been recommended as a suitable person. Well assured of his qualifications and merit I have taken the liberty of nameing him as a fit person to be the successor of Mr. Griswold. From his high standing and respectable character I may say with confidence that his appointemtent, will be highly satisfactory to the people of the Territory, and have no doubt the confidence of the government will be well bestowed. With sentiments of great regard I am your obdt sevt.
