To James Madison from Edward Stevens, 20 April 1808
Virga. Culpeper Ct. House April 20th: 1808
I have been acquainted for many years with Colo. William Campbell. He served under me as an Officer in thorne. American Revolutionary War, & conducted himself with much propriety, is an exceeding good Disciplinarian, and I think him worthy of an appointment in the Troops wch. I am informed is now about to be raised.
