I have recd. Sir1 the little volume on Canals & Agricl Societies2 wch. you have been so obliging as to send me.
The subjects of the publication, with the source from which it proceeds, sufficiently recommend it to the perusal which I shall take the first convenient leisure for giving it. In the mean time, I offer you my thanks with the renewed expression of my esteem & my friendly respects.

This was Daniel Steele (1772–1828), a bookbinder and bookseller in Albany, New York, and the publisher of Watson’s “little Volume” (Daniel Steele Durrie, Steele Family. A Genealogical History of John and George Steele, (Settlers of Hartford, Conn.) 1635–6, and Their Descendants … (Albany, N.Y., 1862), 22.
