I lay before Congress a statement of the Militia of the United States, according to the latest returns received by the Department of War.1

1. The enclosure (1 large folio) forwarded by JM was an account of the “latest returns” of militia from the states and territories, prepared by Daniel Parker on 1 Mar. 1816. The returns ranged in date from 1809 to 1815 and totaled 748,566.
