§ From James Monroe. 1 February 1815, War Department. “I have the honor respectfully to propose for your approbation the enclosed appointments in the Army of the United States.”

Letterbook copy and letterbook copy of enclosure (DNA: RG 107, LSP); enclosure (DNA: RG 46, Executive Proceedings, Nominations, 13B–A3). Letterbook copy 1 p. The enclosure (2 pp.; printed in Senate Exec. Proceedings, description begins Journal of the Executive Proceedings of the Senate of the United States of America (3 vols.; Washington, 1828). description ends 2:616) listed twenty-four infantry appointments and promotions, with notes identifying several individuals as having “distinguished” themselves in battle. JM forwarded the enclosure to the Senate on 7 Feb. 1815, adding Simeon Knight’s nomination as quartermaster general (DNA: RG 46, Executive Proceedings, Nominations, 13B–A3).
