9 August 1809, Washington, Mississippi Territory. Since writing JM on 7 Aug. Governor Holmes has appointed William B. Shields the territorial attorney general as the office was vacated by a resignation. Alexander Montgomery from Adams County would be a salutary choice for the legislative council.
