§ From Anthony Morales. 26 December 1806, Georgetown “(Ptk [Potomac]).” “I had the honor, to write you a few lines yesterday,1 in order, to acquaint you, my arrival from Charleston, and at the same time, the wishing I had, to know, what hour would be convenient for you, this day, to have a conference with me, at your private house, on important bussiness; I expect, my letter must have not become to you, and therefore adress these lines, requesting your answer.”

Filed with this letter is a draft of a 26 December 1806 note to Morales (1 p.; in Wagner’s hand): “Mr. Madison has received Mr. Morales’ letter of this day; that of yesterday not having come to hand. Mr. Madison will be at home to morrow morning at ten OClock when Mr. Morales may have an oppy. of communicating the business which his letter suggests as important” (DNA: RG 59, NFC, vol. 1).
