Acknowledged in Bernard Smith to Theus, 30 Oct. 1806, addressed to “The Collector of the Customs Charleston, S.C.,” as having enclosed copies of protections Theus had issued for three American seamen who were subsequently impressed (DNA: RG 59, Correspondence with Collectors of Customs regarding Impressed Seamen, box 12).
