§ From Joshua Lewis. 12 August 1805, Lexington. “I acknowledge the receipt of a commission appointing me Commr to the Eastern District of the New-Orlean territory from the President of the U. States. With gratitude I accept of it, and assure you that my best endeavours shall be used to discharge the same with fidelity.”
