Dear Sir
since my last I have drawn on you in favor of Dabney Carr for 68. D 10 L. H. Girardin 25.D. Joseph Milligan 92.D. and this day in favor of Th: J. Randolph for 275.D.
I set out tomorrow for Bedford, and shall probably be there to the last of the next month. Not knowing the day when my note of 1000.D. in bank will need renewal, I must ask the favor of you to notify me of it by inclosing a blank directed to me ‘at Poplar forest near Lynchburg,’ and it shall be attended to. Accept the assurance of my great esteem and respect.

TJ had drawn on Gibson & Jefferson on 30 July, 2, 11, and 19 Aug., respectively. The payment to Louis H. Girardin covered $19 for books, $2 for plants, and $4 for a year’s subscription to the Daily Compiler and Richmond Commercial Register, probably for the biweekly country edition. The money owed Thomas Jefferson Randolph included $42 for twelve bushels of corn; $14 for “sundry small articles”; $100 toward the salary of Tufton’s overseer, William Ballard; and $119 for cash received (, 2:1312, 1313).
