Thomas Jefferson Papers

Donald Fraser to Thomas Jefferson, 15 December 1812

From Donald Fraser

New York Decr 15. 1812

Venerable Sir

I am about publishing a work, which may prove of some utility to the community—Governor Tompkins, Hon. John Jay, Hon. DeWitt Clinton & all the Clergy in this City have subscribed for it:—I would be glad to obtain the Weight of your name likewise.—

I have the Honour to be, with high respect, & Gratitude, Sir, your humble Servant.

D. Fraser

RC (MHi); dateline at foot of text; endorsed by TJ as received 25 Dec. 1812 and so recorded in SJL.

Fraser’s proposed work, evidently never published, may have been a revision of his Collection of Select Biography: or, the Bulwark of Truth (New York, 1798), which included essays on the lives of “eminent Laymen… whether distinguished as Statesmen, Patriots, Philosophers, &c.”
