Shadrach Ricketson presents his respectful Esteem to his Friend, Thomas Jefferson; & herewith sends him his Treatise on Health, which he desires he will accept as a Testimony of the same: also his pamphlet on the Influenza, & two other small ones.

Millicent Sowerby, comp., Catalogue of the Library of Thomas Jefferson, 1952–59, 5 vols. description ends no. 913). (2) Ricketson, A Brief History of the Influenza, Which prevailed in New-York in 1807 (New York, 1808). Other enclosures not found.

Shadrach Ricketson (1768–1839), physician, studied medicine under Benjamin Anthony and practiced in Dutchess County, New York, where he served as the president of the county’s medical society, 1823–24. He advocated wellness and hygiene (Fred B. Rogers, “Shadrach Ricketson (1768–1839): Quaker Hygienist,” Journal of the History of Medicine 20 [1965]: 140–50).
