Mr. Hamilton presents his respectful Compliments to Mr. Jefferson and requests to be favoured with a copy of his Report concerning the distillation of Fresh from Salt-Water.

Hamilton requested a copy of TJ’s 21 Nov. 1791 Report on the Desalination of Sea Water so that he could comply with a joint resolution of Congress of 8 May 1792 directing the Secretary of the Treasury to provide United States collectors with printed clearance forms containing a description of methods used to extract fresh water from sea water in order to encourage their testing and use.
