Carlisle [Pennsylvania] November 13, 1800. Notifies Hamilton that his son Callender Irvine2 is fit to report for military duty and will visit Hamilton to thank him for “indulging him with a long leave of absence for the recovery of health.”3

1. Irvine, an immigrant from Ireland and a veteran of the American Revolution, was a member of the United States House of Representatives from Pennsylvania from 1793 to 1795. On March 13, 1800, he was appointed superintendent of military stores at Philadelphia (Heitman, United States Army description begins Francis B.
