The Secretary of the Treasury has the honor to transmit herewith to the President of the United States the result of the enquiry on the subject of Mr. Drayton.1

1H may have misdated this letter to Washington or it was misdated by the copyist, for “the result of the enquiry on the subject of Mr. Drayton” may be found in Oliver Wolcott, Jr., to H, September 1, 1791.

Stephen Drayton, who had served as deputy quartermaster general of the Southern Department during the American Revolution, wished to be appointed naval officer of Charleston, South Carolina.
