8. The son of BF’s neighbor Louis-Guillaume Le Veillard, he was a close friend of WTF’s, with whom he exchanged numerous letters. He planned to sail to America aboard the Marquis de Lafayette and arrived in Lorient on March 1: Lopez, Lafayette, p. 219.

9. It contained seeds for Edward Duffield, which Le Veillard was asked to keep dry: WTF to Le Veillard, Feb. 20 (Library of Congress).
