4See Dubourg to BF above, before Jan. 8. The host for whom he was writing was either the prominent Parisian banker Rodolphe-Ferdinand, usually known as Ferdinand, Grand (1726–94), or possibly his older brother and fellow banker, the Chevalier Isaac-Jean-Georges-Jonas, known as Georges (1716–93), whose base was Amsterdam but who was frequently in Paris. Both men became of crucial importance to the commissioners and will appear with corresponding frequency. For the background of the house see Lüthy, Banque protestante, II, 339–42.
