New-york 5 Sept. 88
Making a purchase of a Small farm in this State, two miles from Esopus to which I intend to go up with mÿ family in two weeks i thougt it my duty to inform your Honour of this business. Since my last letters I paid a visit a Præsident Franklin, and Lodged two days bÿ General Washington. the Politeness, with which I was received there gives me great pleasure by their remembrances; and these wil receive new renforcements by the knowledge, that your Honour enjoÿ with your estimable familÿ that perfect health and happiness, which wil be forever the object of my ardent wishes.
May I know, Sir! if a Late publication, announced in Hollands Newspapers by the title of Flowers of Modern travels by John Adams is of your hand. I flatter myself, that a half dozen of years wel employed, wil conveÿ to me and my family an easy and honest Subsistance, and this wil be the highest reward, that I desire. Be So kind Sir! to paÿ my respectful compliments to your Ladÿ. I am / Sir! / with Sentiments / of the highest respect and esteem / Your most obliged & obedient / Servant
