Adams Papers

To John Adams from Benjamin Vaughan, 6 April 1787

Js. Square, April 6, 87

Mr B. Vaughan presents his respectful compliments to Mr Adams, and having received news of Mrs Adams & Mrs Smith, concluded it had come into his family by a message obtained by his servant. He is sorry to find upon inquiry that it is otherwise, & begs that this circumstance may be accepted as his apology for not having sent earlier to either.

<[. . .]> Dr. Priestly and Mr Wilkinson &c, were much disappointed at not having the pleasure of Mr. Adams’s company on Monday & Tuesday last; but Dr. Herschell will always of course be happy to see his Excellency;—but the longer the visit is deferred, the more will be there to see. The most proper time is, the first quarter of the moon, whenever the visit is intended.

This note requires no answer.
