Amsterdam June 6. 1797.
I have received here your favour of the 26th: ulto: I am now detained only in expectation of Mr: Murray’s arrival, which is to be hoped for from day to day, but as there must necessarily remain some uncertainty still, whether I can go to England, I am sorry that you concluded to send the Mary to Lisbon for the sole purpose of carrying us.—That was neither my [. . .] nor intention, and I hope you will not on that account omit any [opportunity] to employ her in another way.
I am much obliged to you, for the extract of the Letter, you were so kind as to send me, and with my best respects to Mrs: Johnson, and the young Ladies, remain, Dear, Sir, your obliged friend & very hble. Servt:
John Q. Adams.
