8. On the eve of his departure for New York and England, BF settled his public accounts and received an allowance “for transacting the publick Affairs of this Province in Great-Britain.” He received the bills of exchange here listed as half payment of £1500 sterling voted by the Assembly for the expense of his mission on April 1, the other half to be remitted on his order. Votes, 1756–57, p. 107. On March 17 he had also received £201 4s. 3d. “for immediate Services” and £210 13s. 9d. “for establishing a Post to Winchester, &c.” Ibid., p. 166.
9. That is, the exchange rate was: £165 Pennsylvania currency equalled £100 sterling.
