Treasury Department, Revenue Office, June 4, 1794. “The enclosed contract between Wm. Allibone and M: Vanduzen1 is transmitted for the purpose of submission to the President. I am satisfied that a more favorable contract cannot be effected, with a workman equally to be relied on for fidelity, care & ability.…”

1. The contract between Allibone, as superintendent of lighthouses, beacons, buoys, and public piers for Philadelphia, Cape Henlopen, and Delaware Bay, and Matthew Van Dusen, blacksmith, stipulated that Van Dusen should construct two mooring chains for the use of floating beacons in the Delaware River (copy, RG 26, Lighthouse Deeds and Contracts, National Archives).
