Sir

We have the honour to send you 7 Bills, firsts and seconds, on Messrs. Willink & Staphorst in Amsterdam, making together Bo ƒ36000 at 10 days from the 16th Inst. Be pleased to send them back to us signed, with the letter of advice, and we will have the honour to advise you the proceeds after their negotiation. RC (DLC); endorsed. The enclosed bills (not found) are described in TJ’s letter of advice to Willink & Van Staphorst, 16 May 1788. TJ’s Account Book under date of 14 May has the following entry: “Gave Mr. Grand bill on Willincks & Van Staphorsts for 36,000ƒ banco. This is to replace monies he had advanced for U.S. from the fund of Virginia, and from his own funds. So it need not be entered in my account with the U.S. These bills were dated the 16th inst.”
