December 29. 1794.

Sir.

I beg leave to submit to you, the proceedings held with the Cherokees in the month of June last, together with the Articles arising out of the said conference; and also a draft of a message to the Senate upon this subject.1

The conference with the Chickasaws is copied; But as no treaty was formed requiring the advice and consent of the Senate, it is deemed unnecessary to transmit it to that body.2 I have the honor to be, Most respectfully, Sir Your obedt Servt

Knox’s draft for a message to the Senate has not been identified, but GW’s message to the Senate of 30 Dec. reads: “I lay before you, for your consideration, certain additional Articles to the Treaty with the Cherokees, stipulated the 28th of June last; together with the conferences which occasioned the formation of the said articles” (LS, DNA: RG 46, entry 40; copy, DLC:GW). The proceedings (which were reported as “Not on file” when that message was printed in ASP description begins Walter Lowrie et al., eds. American State Papers.
