A receipt from William Reeves, London, 25 Apr. 1786, records TJ’s payment of interest of £40 to Wakelin Welch, Sr., surviving partner of Cary, Moorey & Welch. On verso TJ recorded the following:

TJ made provisions for the payment of this private debt at the same time he provided bonds for the payment of the sum he owed to Welch as one of the executors of the Wayles estate (TJ to John Wickham, 20 Jan. 1797).
